Madison and I shot this one at Fingal Head, beginning the afternoon around the lighthouse as the light softened across the coastline. It was one of those beautiful days where everything felt calm and the plan seemed to be working exactly as expected.
About halfway through the shoot, a rogue wave rolled over the rocks and hit my film camera, filling it with salt water and ending that part of the plan instantly. After twenty minutes trying to bring it back to life, it was clear the camera was done.
Instead of calling the shoot, we adapted. We switched to digital and kept moving. The sun dropped, the sky darkened, and we stayed out long enough to start shooting under a full moon, creating strong silhouettes against the water and the night sky.
This issue blends both film and digital, shaped by the conditions and the moment rather than a fixed plan. Madison stayed present through it all, and that trust carried the shoot through to the end.
This issue reflects everything I want this project to stand for: intention, resilience, and collaboration when things don’t go to plan.
